IMPROVED ACADEMICALLY
Cameron has been taking karate at the
Manchester Karate School for several months
and I have seen a steady improvement in many
areas. Cameron is always excited to move
forward in his quest for “Black Belt
Excellence”. Cameron has improved in school
not only academically but also in his social
skills. He has leaned how to focus better
and he continues to try to be a well-rounded
student. I appreciate the individual
attention that has been given to Cameron in
these past months, and the schools
commitment to all of the kids.

INDEPENDENT AND SELF-RELIANT
After three years of Karate lessons, this
continues to be an activity that Tim
enjoys. Karate reinforces some of the
teaching we as parents want Tim to learn,
i.e.: responsibility, fitness, and
self-awareness. Karate helps teach Tim
independence and self-reliance. In this
activity, he must rely on his own skills
both physical and mental. He looks forward
to moving up a rank.

FOCUSED
The positive benefits I have seen in myself
are; I have learned to be more focused on
what I am doing instead of letting my eyes
wander. Also, I found out what my limits
are and exactly how far I can push myself to
do something. Karate also helped me to work
on setting and keeping my goals.

HONOR ROLL ALL YEAR
Korin has made tremendous improvement over
the last year on her confidence, manners,
and responsibility. During the school year
was always a battle to get her to do her
homework, but in this last year the battle
was less and she made the honor roll all
four quarters. Her confidence level has
increased as well and I hope it continues to
improve. Her responsibility has improved
but still needs work. I hope Manchester
Karate will continue to help her improve in
this matter.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE
The level of outstanding service began with
our first appointment with Mr. White. It
was clear he knew how to gain the respect
from the children he worked with as well as
making the lesson fun and exciting. In fact
as Jeremy was watching Brandon’s orientation
he also became captivated and asked if he
could take lessons too.
We began classes and once again the level of
service and expertise surpassed my
expectations. When I saw there was not only
one main instructor as well as other adults
there to assist the students I was very
impressed. It seemed as though each child
got individual attention even in a class of
eight (8) or more.
Mrs. Cheryl B.
HELPFUL LESSONS
Keep doing what you are doing. The lessons at the end of the
class e.g. What is integrity. Telling the
truth, etc. are very helpful.
Mrs. Patricia G.
NOT JUST A KARATE CLASS
I am writing this letter to tell you
formally that I have been very happy with
the Karate lessons. I especially love the
Karate Instructors. It was difficult to
pick up just one instructor I like them
all. They are always cheerful and in a
happy go lucky mood is how I perceive them.
What I like about the class is structure. I
have noticed that the minute we walk into
the Karate school that he shows immediate
respect for his surroundings. I am
impressed by the talks they have with the
children about strangers, when to use your
Karate, tone of voice, goals what they are
and how to achieve them. I am confident
that my son is learning good strong values
by attending this school not just a
karate class.
Mrs. Kimberly R.
CLASS DISCUSSIONS
Lemont and I are very pleased with the
karate program. We especially like the class
discussions. Ideas that come from parents
are often thought of as “nuts” but when a
karate instructor says the same thing, it
actually means something.
Mr. and Mrs. H.
BENEFITS CARRY OVER TO EVERYDAY LIFE
It was great fun having something that the
whole family could be involved, with
benefits that suited each individual’s
needs; benefits that would carry over into
our everyday lives. My older son became
less shy and more outgoing. My younger son
learned self-control and became less
aggressive. We all learned
self-discipline. I think my greatest
benefit has been self-confidence. Not only
have I learned that it’s ok to be me, but
that I’m proud (but not arrogant) to be the
person that I am. I have learned not to
flee something new for fear of failure,
because truly it is only in fleeing that I
fail. Perhaps I will not get everything
right the first time, but I will continue to
grow with each attempt. I remember
humorously warning my co-workers that they
better watch themselves…I was a white belt.
Mrs. Kristen L.
TIME COMMITMENT
During these two years Lauren has shown an
improvement in her overall attitude. She
has learned to set goals for herself and
appreciates the hard work and time
commitment required to reach them. She is
now able to apply this lesson to her daily
life.
Lauren is also becoming more coordinated and
is certainly more physically fit than when
she began. Her focus is improving as well.
Her family is committed to helping her reach
her goals and we are thankful that she is at
your school where it is obvious that the
lessons taught are life lessons as well as
Karate Lessons.
Darrell and Jackie W.
FUN ATMOSPHERE
I have enjoyed my time at Manchester Karate
Studio so far. The teachers are wonderful
and the atmosphere is fun and stress free.
I have learned quite a bit already and have
told others about how well the program
works.
Joseph R.
MADE A FRIEND OF SOMEONE I THOUGHT WAS MEAN
The Manchester Karate program has helped me
solve family arguments. If an argument
happens before karate I can go and let off
some steam. The program has taught me
self-control and respect so only small
fights break out anyway. The program has
boosted my confidence too. The talks have
made me more aware of what I am doing;
because of one of the talks I made a friend
out of a person I thought was mean. In
conclusion I am glad I started karate and I
really want to continue.
Bridget H.
FROM SHY TO OUTGOING
Karate has helped me develop
self-confidence. I believe in myself now
more that I did before I joined karate.
Before I joined karate I was a shy person
and now I am an outgoing person. I think
the other thing that helped me get
self-confidence is the talks they give you
at the end of class.

COMPLIMENT
OUR EFFORTS AT HOME
We became familiar with Manchester Karate
Studio about five years ago when we
signed-our our then 5 year old son, Denis,
in the Little Dragons class. When we came
to Manchester Karate Studio we were looking
for a program that would compliment our
efforts at home to develop Denis’s
self-confidence, manners, responsibility and
physical fitness. Manchester Karate Studio
has definitely lived up to our expectations.
At five years of age, Denis had little understanding of
self-confidence. He saw karate class as fun
most of the time, but often verbalized the
uncertainty that he could learn a new
technique or form. Denis even considered
dropping the program due to this lack of
self-confidence in his abilities. With our
support and that of the staff at Manchester
Karate Studio, Denis has successfully
achieved all the requirements of each belt
and now proudly “sports” his Red Belt.
Denis has developed a strong sense of
self-confidence over the past years due in
part to his very positive experiences at
Manchester Karate Studio.
All karate classes Manchester Karate Studio also include a
very important component that involves a
lesson plan relative to manners, respecting
others, responsibility, nutrition, teamwork,
or some other life experience. These
regular lessons relate very well to the
children’s everyday life experiences and
help to reiterate what we are teaching our
kids at home.
In today’s society physical fitness is so important for
children. As a parent, it is good to know
that my child is getting two or three
forty-five minute workouts each week through
participation in the Manchester Karate
Studio programs. Although Denis is a
moderately active kid outside of karate
class, I do feel that the exercise he gets
at Manchester Karate Studio is key to
maintaining his firm muscles and slender
build.
Denis, now ten years old, is approaching the
final stretch o his goal as he enters the
Black Belt Preparation class in August. We
are very proud of the young man he is
developing into and appreciate the efforts
of the staff at Manchester Karate Studio.
We hope and expect that Denis will
participate in Manchester Karate Studio
programs for many more years.
Lisa D.
SELF-CONFIDENCE
My son Ian “Paolo” Mauricio has gained a lot
from the program. He has developed
self-confidence. I remember during his
first year when he had difficulty
remembering some of the techniques and was
about to quit but one of the teachers was
kind enough to help him with the techniques
and that really made Paolo feel good. The
teachers are really great with the kids in
helping them. Paolo also has certainly
become more physically fit compared to when
he first started.
Mrs. M.
KNEW BEFORE BIRTH
I always knew my children would take karate
even before I had them. I saw it as a way
to instill confidence, self-reliance, and a
respect for authority while at the same time
teach them how to protect themselves if I
wasn’t there to do it for them. What more
could you ask of an activity?
I know there are as many philosophies of
Martial arts as there are personalities to
fit to them. I wanted a dojo that
concentrated on the individual,
self-responsibility, and didn’t use
intimidation (no matter how couched) to
achieve control of classes. Manchester
Karate Studio employs teachers who are kind
to my children, patient, and genuinely
appear to like their students!
Kris R.
MORE CONFIDENCE
I have more confidence in myself today then
I did before I went to your school. Doing
things feels a lot easier now. I’m in the
best shape that I ever was before. Now I
feel I respect others more because I respect
myself more. I enjoy the workouts in the
class sometimes with the Black Belt I get a
little nervous but I have the confidence
that the person I am working with and the
staff at the school will always look out for
my safety, thank you for all your help in
helping me reach my goal to become a black
belt.
Julio L.
CONFIDENCE
BOOSTER
Our son, Tommy, is staying personally
committed to karate with eagerness to
participate and excitement upon obtaining
goals, which makes us very pleased. Other
benefits we see are the values of exercise,
self-confidence and learning that listening
and cooperating are respect issues but that
within that structure you can still have
fun. Tommy has been going through Physical
Therapy for the last two years. His bone
growth was much faster than his muscle
growth, which gave him quite a bit of pain,
along with some physical limitations at
times. He has greatly benefited from the
stretching exercises. Also, from the aspect
of being able to do well as something
physical has been a true confidence
booster. Tommy’s goal is to become a “Black
Belt”, with no wavering in that statement.
With all of our encouragement, I know that
Tommy will reach that goal if he really
wants if bad enough. I thank you teaching
staff for their enthusiasm and
professionalism and especially for their
effort with our son. We look forward to
many years of rank promotion celebrations
and to having fun at Manchester Karate
Studio.
Richard and Bonnie S.
HONESTY
My child Christopher has learned that it is
imperative that he keeps up his respect
toward others as well as himself. He has
also learned that he should be honest and
should never use the art of Kenpo on his
friends or outside of the karate class. He
is now more alert than ever before. He
behaves much better than before and has
improved in many areas. The biggest
improvement has been shown at home.
Mr. and Mrs. S.
WINNING COMBINATION
Behaviorally, both John and Joe have shown
considerable improvement over the past two
months. We owe it to karate school and good
teaching and discipline on the part of the
instructors. But, karate is also fun. John
and I practice the different forms and
techniques at home, while swimming, and just
talking about the moves. One night we
watched Karate Kid 1- both John and Joe were
totally captivated. They have a sense of
pride and accomplishment in being able to do
karate. Techniques talked about in this
film have been the topic of many Joe
conversations. “Wax on, Wax off, paint up,
paint side to side”
The karate creed also plays a big role in
our daily life. I don’t think John and Joe
know it completely by heart, but they do
know what the words mean. Brothers often
fight and John and Joe are no different. “I
will not be abusive and offensive is often
used in our home as a means of cutting
fights short or stopping them altogether.
I do not believe that the benefit we are
gaining as a family because of karate could
be duplicated at any other school. The
combination of caring teachers, positive
reinforcement, high-expectations, and the
overflow to home life are amazing.
Ron and Jeanne S.
OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
I have always taught my son that
opportunities are out there it is up to him
to get them. Over the years I have watch my
son mature into a wonderful young man.
Manchester Karate has a lot to do with it.
I would rather see my son in the Karate
Studio rather than hanging out on the
streets like most young kids do. In my
opinion Karate improves self-esteem and
self-confidence and gives you a sense of
awareness. Parents have to nurture and
encourage their children every step of the
way. Parents should get involved to show
the kids that they do care and that there is
someone there for them.
Angie S.
MEETS OBLIGATIONS
Tim showed an interest in karate two years
ago because one of his friends was enrolled
in the class. We did the one-month trial,
and Tim wanted to continue on. Tim is very
involved in sports, playing basketball,
baseball and soccer. Throughout the year we
have to juggle our schedule to make room for
all his activities, but Tim continues to
show an interest in karate. We are pleased
with Tim’s sense of confidence and
responsibility towards karate and his
teams. He enjoys Manchester karate and
looks forward to each belt advancement.
Mr. and Mrs. S.
WELCOMES CHALLENGES
It is with highest esteem we hold you, your
effort, and the environment you provide for
our son. We have noticed positive change in
him regarding his attitude toward
challenges---he seems to welcome them now
instead of avoiding them.
As parents, we strive to bring out the best
in our children—we initiated by laying the
groundwork for the development of motivated,
responsible and confident individuals. It
gives us great comfort to know that your
school incorporates these traits into the
learning regimen, and, more importantly,
these traits are put into practice.
Dawn S.
CONFIDENCE AND MATURITY
I feel that Bridget’s participation in the
karate program has dramatically increased
her confidence and maturity. In the last
year, she’s really excelled in mastering her
techniques and participating in the class
discussions. Her pride in her achievement
has permeated other areas in her life as
well, both academically and with her
relationships with family and friends.
She is in her third year at the Manchester
Karate Studio and right from the start, I
was impressed with the instructors and the
program. She’s come a long way and going
forward, I can only see her growing into a
well-rounded young woman. I am very proud
of my daughter.
Martina L.
HESITATED BEFORE TRYING
Our son has been enrolled with your
wonderful school for seven months now. What
you don’t know is that we really hesitated
prior to finally deciding to give Manchester
Karate a chance. The reason for our delay
was the previous experiences with dance
schools and gymnastics programs. Once we
saw how kind, gently, encouraging yet firm
all your teachers are, we knew we made the
right choice.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M.
SELF CONFIDENCE
I am writing this letter on the change I
have seen in Dalton. I have noticed that
since he has started at Manchester Karate
Studio his level of self-confidence has
risen greatly. Dalton has always used his
manners and been very respectful to his
peers but I found that he seems to go out of
his way more to help his peers since
starting karate. Dalton also seems to
listen more than he used to and tends to
practice exactly the good things that are
taught in class.
Mrs. M.
SHYNESS DISAPPEARING
I am writing in regards to my son Matthew
Arroyo. Since he has started karate I have
noticed several changes. But one major one
comes to mind; Matthew has always been a shy
boy. Now his self-confidence level has
risen, he does not shy away form anything.
He would never volunteer to do anything that
involved being in front of a group. But now
he is one of the first ones to raise his
hand. I am very proud of him. I am also
impressed with the school and the curriculum
that is taught. I especially liked the
discussion about strangers. As soon as we
were in the car after class Matthew was
talking about our “password” and on several
other occasions we have discussed what was
talked about in class for days afterwards.
Cathie A.
FULL OF CONFIDENCE AND RESPONSIBILITY
Thanks to your school and all your staff
members I am seeing before my very eyes my
little boy grow into this wonderful full of
confidence and responsibility. Not
mentioning how he is growing into this
beautiful fit body and learning at your
school how to keep it safe and take care of
it. He is a wonderful student in school as
far as a, responsibility and respect to all
his teacher, I am very proud of Julio and I
enjoy sitting through his classes and seeing
first hand the wonderful job you are all
doing for Julio. And for me. Thank you all
so much.
Naomi C.
RESPECT FOR SELF AND OTHERS
Walker has made many improvements since
joining the Manchester Karate Studio. He
has more respect for himself and others and
has developed a greater tolerance toward his
peers. I truly believe he has benefited
greatly form your karate program. He is
polite, courteous, and has never
disrespected the knowledge he has gained
from your studio. This is due largely to
the fact that he is under the supervision of
such great instructors.
Every instructor at Manchester Karate Studio
gives Walker the respect, praise, and
confidence that he deserves in order to
succeed as the art of Kenpo. Had it not
been for them being positive and helpful, I
don’t know if Kenpo Karate would be a part
of Walker’s life today. We would like to
thank all the staff at Manchester Karate
Studio for being so great with our child.
Thank you.
Clayton and Edith N.
CALM AND PATIENT
Since Victoria started in the Manchester
Karate Studio program last fall, I have seen
many positive changes in her. Victoria has
become a more calm and patient person. She
strives to live by the Principles of Black
Belt and takes her commitment to that very
seriously. Victoria has more confidence
(which she sees as bravery). She now
believes that she can stand up for herself.
Scott and Rachel G.
STAFF ARE EXCELLENT ROLE MODELS
I have been pleased with Geoffrey’s progress
with you. After a year of taking classes,
he continues to look forward to learning and
growing each week. I believe this
commitment is a positive example of the
benefits of your program.
The positive attitudes of the staff serve as
excellent role models to the children. I
feel that Geoffrey’s confidence in himself
and his abilities have been aided by taking
classes with you.
Jill M.
DIRECTIONAL CONFUSION
My daughter Erin, since she was a young
child, has had a problem with directional
confusion. She would hold a crayon in
either hand, not favoring her left or right,
with little or no progression as far as
letter/word formation. Later in school, she
would get b and d mixed up, and she still,
to a certain extent, writes her j’s
backwards.
I believe that karate has helped her in this
respect, because it helps her learn
directional skill at her own pace, with very
positive reinforcement. She has progressed
very well at overcoming her uncertainties in
this area.
Diane D.
ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL
Matthew’s favorite things about Manchester
Karate are the instructors and the fact that
everyone works together to improve
themselves. Karate is thought to be an
individual activity, but your program
fosters group interaction. Matthew thrives
in that kink of environment.
Matthew has always been well mannered
courteous and responsible. Your program has
helped him to increase his confidence
level. He still gets very nervous during
testing week, but once he gets his stripe or
new belt, we can see his confidence grow.
We are very happy with Matthew’s
participation in Manchester Karate and will
continue to support and encourage him to
work towards his goal of becoming a Black
Belt.
The P. Family
QUALITY INSTRUCTORS
Brian and Kurt have shown tremendous
benefits from attending Manchester Karate.
As a parent we always strive to teach the
important principles of life. Manchester
Karate instills manners, confidence, and
respect and safety issues to their
students. I am extremely impressed with the
school, especially the quality of
teachers/instructors employed here. Keep up
the great work.
Mauretta M.
RESPECT EMPHASIZED
The Manchester Karate Studio program has
allowed Connor to develop with respect to
physical fitness, as well as becoming
mentally fit. Connor has become more
respectful of all those around him due to
the high value the studio has put on respect
in general. He has also become aware of his
surroundings at all times and walks and
talks with more confidence.
The karate program has also fit in nicely
with other sports. Connor has much more
speed and endurance than his peers. He also
has more coordination than most kids his
age. He, although not large in size, seems
to have better than average strength.
What we as parents note, is this program
allows individuals to move at their own pace
thus inspiring each student to practice and
strive for the next level as soon as
possible. In this way Connor has looked
forward with each passing week toward the
goal of a new belt. The instructors foster
this progression and reinforce the students’
confidence by the method used in teaching
that is easily learned by the student.
Connor, at age 8, looks forward to breaking
boards when he achieves his black belt, but
also knows and understands that it will take
time to achieve the ultimate goal.
Joseph C.
SELF-DEFENSE SKILLS
I think the program advice from the
instructors about life lessons is very
important. It makes me as a parent relieved
to think that Desiree, if ever need be, has
the self-defense skills needed to
defend herself. Also the responsibility it
does teach towards goal setting and
attending classes.
Sue B.
OFF AND RUNNING
I have noticed many positive benefits in
myself since I joined Karate. Three
benefits my family and I have noticed are my
self-confidence and self-esteem in myself
and I have a lot more energy. After I
joined my fitness got much better and I
started running every day. I developed much
more self-esteem once I got my fitness up.
I don’t think I could of done it if I didn’t
join this karate school.
Heather G.
SPEAKING OUT LOUD
We have enjoyed watching Alexa’s confidence
grow since she began attending Manchester
Karate Studio. She has also developed a
comfort level with things like speaking out
loud in front of a group of people,
introducing herself, etc. We have also
enjoyed seeing Alexa’s fitness level
change. Her push-ups have certainly
improved since the beginning!! It is
important to say that we really enjoy your
staff and how great they are with the kids.
Classes start and end on time and the kids
really get a workout during this time.
Thanks for all your hard work.
Lou and Lori R.
IMPULSE CONTROL
We were parents searching for a sport that
our son could experience success. He had
always wanted to enroll in a karate school
but we were reluctant. We felt that he
lacked the maturity and impulse control to
participate in a martial arts program. In
addition we were concerned that he would use
the skills he learned in an inappropriate
fashion. We were pleasantly surprised that
there was a no contact rule and that the use
of karate skills were a parental decision.
Also each class included a moral lesson
including but not limited to respect,
honesty, and setting goals. Our son has had
limited success with other sports but
through the efforts of his karate teachers
he has improved his ability to focus, learn
and achieve success.
We would highly recommend the Steve White
Studio. The staff here has been able to
evaluate and carry out a plan that our son
is able to achieve success with martial arts
skills, setting life goals and raising his
self-esteem.
My husband and I believe that karate has had
a positive effect on our son’s ability to
know what expectations are and what he needs
to do to achieve them. Our son has learned
that by attending and performing at your
highest level you are able to achieve
personal satisfaction.
Al and Diane C.
HOW TO HANDLE THE BULLY
I have seen a lot of improvement in myself
because of karate. One thing that has
improved is my behavior at home. In karate
my forms and techniques have gotten
stronger. I have learned a lot in karate
like what to do if you encounter a bully.
During school I noticed that my grades
improved a lot. I feel that I have more
self-confidence. Also I have better
responsibility. I also feel more fit than I
used to be.
Korin A.
MANNERS AND RESPONSIBILITY
My son, Evan, is exhibiting the manners and
responsibility, which are taught during
karate class. It has been obvious
throughout the years that the karate has
helped nurture the good qualities found in
Manchester Karate students. He is
self-confident, polite, and doing very well
in school. Karate is good physically as
well as mentally. All the discussions about
respect, feelings of others, and health are
carried over into his everyday life. Keep
up the good work!
Rosalie L.
WE LOOKED AT OTHER STUDIOS…
Wesley wasn’t into team sports but these
parents wanted him to do something
physical. We both decided Karate would be a
great way to go. It also seemed like a
great way to build his confidence and
increase his self-discipline.
We looked at other studios but we really
like the way the instructors taught the
children. We also liked the life lessons
taught at each class.
Wesley has never been enthusiastic about
other sports. But he really enjoys karate
and he is not as shy as usual when he is
there.
Mrs. K.
PROUD PARENT
I am proud of Brandon because he keeps
trying. I think he is doing well especially
considering he is four years younger than
his brother he tries to keep up with.
Cheryl B.
KARATE OVER COUNSELING AND PLAYGROUPS
My son was very shy and unsure of himself.
He needed help, he needed confidence. He
needed interaction with others his own age
and learn that he needs to keep his hands to
himself. I was considering counseling or
play groups but my nephew Donald takes
karate and we saw how it helped him and we
new we had to try it. And with the trial
program we really couldn’t go wrong. William
has asthma and that was a major
factor. He needed all kinds of meds and I
thought it was scary. But the Doctor said
it was ok and the instructor assured me if
William were to have any problems at all he
could just walk off the mat and come see
me. I feel my son is benefiting from
karate. He is gaining self-control,
self-confidence, and he is more outgoing.
One day in class they were having a relay
race and William was racing with one of the
instructors and they won. William was proud
that she helped him out to win the race. He
felt proud of himself, and he has since
gained so much more confidence in himself.
It is wonderful. Thank you
Tracy B.
SELF-CONFIDENCE
We felt our son needed more self-confidence,
self-control, and discipline. We were
looking for an activity that would all this
and more. He had been feeling like he
couldn’t do things for a few years. We
didn’t know what to get hi into. We had
looked into a gymnastics program for him to
get energy out buy boys were not welcomed at
the few we looked at. When visiting MKS for
the first time and meeting Mr. White we saw
how disciplined it was, how Zachary reacted
when spoken to, etc. The only concern was
that he would use his karate at an
inappropriate time but the studio has shown,
told and set many examples for him to
follow. We feel Zachary has more
self-confidence- in the fact that he can do
things. His self-control is coming along
and the instructors help with that during
class.
Mr. and Mrs. H.
FEELS BETTER ABOUT HIMSELF
To begin, our son Forrest is a very good boy
but we noticed that for about six months
before Forrest started Karate needed a
little bit more structure and
self-discipline. He needed to improve his
self-confidence and just needed to polish up
his manners. We were looking at enrolling
Forrest into a gym program. We went to one
of our friend’s son’s classes and liked the
way the instructors interacted with the
kids. We thought the program was wonderful
and felt that it would benefit Forrest
immensely. Upon reviewing the program for
our son, we did not find anything negative
about the program and didn’t hesitate to
sign him up. Since we enrolled Forrest into
the karate program we have noticed he has
more self-confidence and better
self-discipline. His behavior has
improved. Everything is either, yes
ma'am or yes sir, please and thank you.
Since we enrolled our son Forrest into the
karate program we must admit that we were
shocked to find that Forrest is actually
asking to do chores around the house. We
are also surprised at how well his manners
are, for example-addressing adults. He is
also more respectful of others and their
feelings.

ACADEMIC
SUCCESS FACTORS INTO KARATE PROMOTIONS
We wanted Emily to join a Karate Studio to
help her come out of her shell. She was
very shy. We wanted something that would
not take up too many nights/days. We were
worried that she would try her karate moves
on her friends. But he teachers stressed
not to use these moves on your friends and
families. The studio helps develop
self-esteem and teaches moral lessons. This
is a big plus- other activities, team
sports, do not seem to involve this with
their activity. Emily is improving in her
attitude. The fact that her school
grades play a part of her karate promotion
makes her try harder.

IN JUST TWO MONTHS
It’s only been two months and I’ve seen his
attitude improve.

35 MISSING ???
I am a computer
professional, and like many others in this field I find myself under
great stress. Prior to joining the Manchester Karate Studio, I did
not partake in any regular form of exercise. I was overweight, had
daily knee pain, and desperately needed an outlet for my stress.
This unhealthy situation began roughly 10 years prior to my
enrollment, getting steadily worse until I started taking your
class.
I had joined a
health club a few years back. Kike a lot of other health club
patrons, my interest fizzled within a few months. I couldn’t get
myself “psyched up” to ride a stationary bike and use Nautilus
equipment. These activities simply did not motivate me or hold my
interest.
The only negative
factor that I can recall was my “fear of commitment”. Of course,
once I tried the free month I realized that this was a healthy
commitment, one that was perfectly suited for me. I resolved the
issue by blocking off the necessary class and practice time every
week, and making this a priority.
To date I have lost
35 pounds and kept it off. I am much more physically fit, and
although I may not be able to leap over tall buildings, I can easily
handle activities that used to wipe me out (e.g. hours of shoveling,
running around with my kids, long hikes, etc.) Stress relief
has been a huge benefit to my everyday health. This is a healthy
activity that my entire family enjoys, giving us a common activity
and common goals. Although it is unlikely that I will need to
defend myself in a serious situation, there is peace in knowing that
my Kenpo training is always with me.
I use to suffer from
severe daily knee pain. Long walks would aggravate my knees, as
well as sitting in one position for more than 30 minutes. I pretty
much expected that the pain would be a part of my daily life. This
knee pain was a real concern when deciding whether to give the
Manchester Karate Studio a try. Soon after enrolling, I was
surprised to find that my daily pain started tapering off to a
couple of times a week. Then weekly. Then a couple of days per
month. I now go months without experiencing any pain in my knees,
and when the pain does arrive, it’s much more bearable than it had
been.

BEST DEFENSE FOR KIDS IS CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM
My wife and I
decided to relocate our Family in NH. We had a year to properly
plan, and realized the importance of explaining and discussing the
move to our two young children. There were many question and answer
sessions, which included benefits and motivation. The big
motivation for our 5-year old son was the opportunity to study
karate with his Uncle and two cousins. They have been with
Manchester Karate for years and were obviously very happy. It could
not have turned out better.
The benefits of
karate? Our three-year-old daughter witnesses her teenage female
cousin teaching karate and going for her Black Belt. An extremely
powerful role model! Our son gets to participate weekly and
considers it fun. He recites what he learns, for example “walk,
talk, and block”. With complete knowledge of their meaning and
importance. It is widely known that self-esteem and confidence are
two of the best defenses children need in facing today’s pressures.
Priceless.
Many thanks to the
devotion and hours of volunteering. We’re “wowed”!

SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
I am quite pleased
with both the Little Dragon’s and junior Beginners programs offered
at Manchester Karate Studio. My son, Kevin, benefited tremendously
from the Little Dragons program for over a year, moving thought
three belt levels, his confidence and sense of accomplishment rising
with each new belt and stripe.
Now that he’s
joining the Junior Beginner Program, I’ve seen significant growth
in his skills development in a very short time. His concentration
and focus seem improved too. He’s excited about testing for his
Yellow Belt and is very proud that he is able to do this so
soon.

LONG-TERM GOAL
David takes karate
very seriously and works hard at it. He is doing well and it is
giving him a long-term goal to work towards.

I WAS AFRAID HE WOULD GET HURT
I was very nervous.
I thought it was only about fighting and he drove me crazy for
almost year. I then found out about it through a friend that said
it was about learning and also a fun sport. I like karate better
because it is not a challenging sport meaning kids do not try to be
better than each other. They all go and work at their own speed and
everyone works together. In the beginning I was afraid he would end
up getting kicked and getting hurt and did not realize it was a
sport that he would learn so much. I believe that you have taught
my son a whole lot of things most important is that he needs to
follow through on his goals. How if he messes up then he has to pay
the consequences. One time he was not behaving in school and was
also giving me a bad time. Kris was not paying attention in the
karate class either. When he went up for his orange belt the
instructor talked with me about Kris’ behavior and he did not
receive his belt. He would have to correct his attitude and then
try again at the next exam in five weeks. This straightened him out
better than anything else. It has made him more aware of his
respect for all of us.

MAKING YOUR OWN BREAKS
There are many
benefits that Sadie has gained from her time at the Manchester
Karate School. Most are pretty obvious and common (better focus,
respect for others, and self-esteem). These will help her as she
grows and faces the pressures that all kids face.
There is one other
benefit that I’m seeing in her that means a lot to me. Sadie is
learning that the amount of effort she puts into karate is directly
related to the results she receives. Of course this is not only for
karate, it’s for all aspects of life. This may seem obvious, but it
is an extremely valuable lesson to a 7-year old. I’m a firm
believer in “making your own breaks”, that no one is responsible for
you but YOU. I’m thrilled to see her learn that the quality of her
life is dependent on her efforts.

CONFIDENCE
We appreciate the
structure and discipline that Manchester Karate brings to Evan’s
upbringing, Evan has enjoyed the experience since entering the
school two years ago, always excited to be in class. Evan has
matured a lot from age 6 to age 8, however we believe his training
here has added in confidence in school and his fitness with other
athletic disciplines, like soccer. Thank you for helping to instill
these positive virtues.

TREMENDOUS STAFF
Manchester Karate
Studio has many positive effects on its students however one stands
out above the rest. The staff members are tremendous! They have
been positive, powerful role models in self-discipline,
perseverance, and respect for others. Oliver has benefited from
this interaction with the staff both in class and outside of the
class structure.

SHYNESS BEING OVERCOME
Patricia started
karate not for self-defense but to give her more self-confidence and
help overcome her shyness. It’s been gradual but slowly I have
noticed she is much more confident about herself. I think she takes
something home from each lesson whether she realizes it or not. The
instructors make classes enjoyable while trying to get a message
across. The atmosphere is friendly and Patricia looks forward to
her classes each week. Karate is not only about values, issues, and
ideals. Setting goals has also become more important to her as I
noticed she strives to reach each belt. Karate was Patricia’s idea
to try it and I’m glad she did.

NEVER SAY “I CAN’T”
I really love
Manchester Karate Studio. I like the methods you use to teach
them. Your classes instill confidence and the never say “I can’t”
attitude. He often takes the time to practice his moves after
karate class. Thank you.

A HARD DAY IN THE OFFICE
My son, Matthew, and
I have both been taking karate at Manchester Karate for 10 months.
We have both received benefits from our respective programs, thought
in very different ways.
Matthew has had
focus and attention problems for his whole school career. Although
karate has not been a miracle cure, it has helped Matt to develop a
longer attention span, which carries over to other activities
in his life.
Matthew has gained
far more self-confidence since he started taking karate. He had
very low self-esteem and felt he could not succeed at any task he
was given. The praise and encouragement he receives when he does a
good job in karate has helped him to think better of himself and
strive to do better.
Karate has also
given Matt and I a common interest and an activity we can work on
together and be of approximately the same skill level. I cannot
follow the twists and turns of a Pokemon, Digimon or Ugi-oh plot nor
can I keep the characters straight. However, when he talks to me
about his frustrations or challenges with a form or technique, I can
understand and help him out.
I, on the other
hand, have used karate as a tension outlet. After a hard day in the
office, it does me a lot of good to go to karate class and work up a
good sweat. It helps me stay centered, it gives me a good physical
workout and allows me to do something ‘for me” without leaving Matt
totally out of the picture.
I started taking
karate as a lark; as something ‘adult’ to do and did not figure I
would stick with it very long. I now REALLY enjoy and look forward
to karate class and never think about quitting. I did not take it
seriously at first but now I find myself really putting my all in to
it and hope to continue for a long time.

NEW FRIENDS
Since I joined the
karate studio, I have had more energy and have become more
physically fit. I am confident that I could defend myself if the
situation called for it, and I have made new friends.

RESPECT FOR SELF AND OTHERS
Walker has made many
improvements since joining the Manchester Karate Studio. He has
more respect for himself and others and has developed a greater
tolerance toward his peers. I truly believe he has benefited
greatly form your karate program. He is polite, courteous, and has
never disrespected the knowledge he has gained from your studio.
This is due largely to the fact that he is under the supervision of
such great instructors.
Every instructor at
Manchester Karate Studio gives Walker the respect, praise, and
confidence that he deserves in order to succeed as the art of
Kenpo. Had it not been for them being positive and helpful, I don’t
know if Kenpo Karate would be a part of Walker’s life today. We
would like to thank all the staff at Manchester Karate Studio for
being so great with our child. Thank you.

MEET
NICE PEOPLE
Karate class has
made me learn a lot of cool stuff, meet a lot of nice people, and
gives me something to do during the week.

RIGHT AWAY MOM!!!
Caterina continues
to use her aptitude for karate at home. She has become more helpful
at home and does tasks right away most of the time.
One thing that
Caterina needs to improve upon is her quick temper in response to
her brother and her mom. (Dad’s work hours only give him a couple
hours daily and all weekend) He doesn’t encounter her temper as
often as I. She knows that she needs to work at control but it is
one thing that eludes her. She is a great kid who does her work at
home and at school- no problems!

KARATE IS FUN!
I think the positive
benefits I have received from Karate are more self-control and more
flexibility. Karate is fun. I have enjoyed karate and look forward
to learning new techniques and forms. I think it will be fun to
learn the staff form.

FITNESS AND HEALTH
I have noticed,
especially in the past cycle that Jeremy has taken an active
interest in fitness and health. He has also become more confident
in things that he does.

WE ARE THRILLED
We have observed our
daughter’s interest in her karate class increase over the past
“soon-to-be-year”. She not only loves her new class, but she
eagerly anticipates whatever new challenges await. We are
thrilled!

MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES
I would like to take
this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to you and all the
instructors at Manchester Karate Studio. Kevin’s experience in
Karate has helped him to gain self-confidence, achieve and
maintain excellent physical fitness, learn how to set and achieve
both short-term and long-term goals.
By attending weekly
classes, he has learned how to manage and attend to commitments in
his life, whether it be karate, family, school, or team sports. He
also has experienced pride in the ability to achieve certain belt
promotions that were a bit more difficult (green, for example) and
his much wanted “gold stripe”.
In addition, the
excellent role models he has had an opportunity to know and
work with every week have been invaluable to help him make right
choices in his everyday life. The instructors are able to explain
situations in easy to understand terms. Kids are able to envision
these situations in everyday life, and it helps them to see the
right way to handle themselves. I would also like to give a special
thanks to his main teachers. He has gained a great deal of respect
for both of them. Thank you again for all of the many benefits your
studio has provided to Kevin.
Ron and Judy K.
DIRECTED
FOCUS
I would like to
begin by thanking you all for having such dedication to my
child as well as all of your students at Manchester Karate Studio.
Amber began your program in November of 1998. She has faced many
challenges in her life since that time. I know you are aware of
some of those challenges. I believe that the structure of your
classes as well as the encouragement and camaraderie she has
received from them has truly helped her on many occasions to
redirect her focus during rough times. She has become a more
thoughtful, respectful and positive individual. She enjoys coming
to classes and being challenged with new material. She has
expressed to me a strong desire to attain her black belt and to some
day assist the instructors in class as a student teacher. We are
very proud of her. Thank you for all your support and hard work!
John and Janet W.
LIFE SITUATIONS
William is
benefiting form Manchester Karate by becoming physically fit. He is
more active. He enjoys karate a lot. I like the way the instructors
talk to them about life situations at every lesson. It has helped
on improving his behavior.
Mrs. Tracy B.
GREAT IMPACT
The way I think
karate has helped me is in self-discipline, confidence, and my
fighting skills. I think my Kenpo has had a great impact on me as
an individual. I can now stand up for myself.
Alex
VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MY SONS LIFE
My son Kristopher
joined your school and I am very proud of what he has accomplished
and the changes he has made in himself. His self-esteem is much
stronger and he has confidence in himself this is something he had a
hard time with before. He has made himself aware that one of the
most important things right now is to aim for a goal and when he
gets there to aim for his next one. He has improved in his grades
and his respect for teachers and others have improved with a lot of
reminders to help him. I have watched a little boy that whined a
lot, hardly paid attention to anyone who was talking to him
completely change thanks to the team work we have put together. He
has come a long way in physically working out. He started with out
even being able to do a pushup or many jumping jacks and now he is
much better. I especially like the talking that the teachers do
with the kids during class it helps the kids understand more
particularly the talks on strangers and being a team player and so
on.
I would like to end
this letter by saying thank you to all of the teachers and helpers.
You have all become a very important of my son’s life and I know he
will go far with the knowledge you have and will teach him in the
future.
Ms. Ann Marie T.
TRAINING FOR THE FUTURE
Davis has attended
Manchester Karate Studio for quite some time now. He has come a
long way since the little dragons and we are proud of the way he has
advanced. He has shown improved reflexes as well as how the forms
and techniques are to be done. He enjoys attending the classes and
gets along well with others in his classes. We are confident that
no matter how long it will take he will become a black belt. We
believe all of the training he gets now will help him in the
future.
Mr. and Mrs.
Egan
ENCOURAGED BY SOCIAL PROGRESS
I have been
encouraged with Joshua’s social progress these past two years at the
studio and at school. Because of his Autism and auto-immune disease
he has been quite limited what activities he can participate in. He
has improved in his acceptance of situations that use to tear him
apart. He listens and concentrates better when spoken to. Josh
also has benefited from this program by learning to move his body
around in a smooth manner. He has arthritis in his legs and lower
body and what he does in stretching and forms helps his “spirit”,
not to mention his circulation and ability to walk better.
Ken and Jill G.
CONFIDENCE TO JOIN CHEERLEADING
Shannon has
progressed steadily with karate. I have to believe that it has
helped to give her the confidence to recently join a cheerleading
squad without knowing anyone. She has her first game on Sunday,
and I know that any comfort she will have in standing in front of
all those people and cheering so they could actually hear her will
be due in part to her experiences here. I remember times like when
she was testing for a new belt (I believe it was her blue belt), and
she told me she was no way going to run all her techniques by
herself. Well, no one else had to test, so that is exactly what she
had to do, and she did fine. Staying with karate is a tough road
with Shannon, but still worth it.
Diane D.
GAINING MATURITY
The most significant
difference I have noticed in Zachary due to his karate training has
been his maturity. Since starting karate class he has displayed a
lot more responsibility and thoughtfulness. Not only has he
displayed these traits at home, but also at school where ha has
received compliments from his teachers about his willingness to
participate and his helpful attitude towards both teachers as well
as fellow students. What I like most about he program at Manchester
Karate Studio is the patience displayed by the instructors.
In a class with a lot of different skill levels, they manage to
convey the lesson without being overbearing. Overall, it has been a
very positive experience for both Zac and myself.
Mr. P.
REACH A POTENTIAL
Since I have started
Karate I’ve gotten more mature by being more disciplined and have
also improved on listening, paying attention and telling the truth.
The teachers are friendly to me and have helped me reach a
potentiality I never knew I had. I am glad I joined karate because
now I know more people and it is a challenge to me. I have been in
your school for 3 years now and believe that every time I receive a
stripe or my next belt I improve more and get closer to my most
important goal which is becoming a black belt.
Kristopher T.
VALUES
The discipline, and
values of Karate are important to us as parents. Andrew
incorporates the values that he learns in Karate around the house
and at school. I believe Andrew will stick with Karate, and I hope
that he does. The classes at your school are very important to
Andrew.

GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER
For much of my adult
life, I have suffered from Generalized Anxiety Disorder. As a
result, the fears I feel do not make sense, yet are debilitating.
They are not necessarily related to events that have occurred to me
or in my immediate surroundings. I’d like to address one particular
fear I have which makes some sense, but has overwhelmed my life.
I have an incredible
fear of being attacked. I have two family members who have been
victimized and I have believed that it will happen to me in due
time. Just walking through the paved sidewalk from the back parking
lot to the front of the karate school has been difficult for me. I
don’t see a nicely paved sidewalk; I see an alley with someone
around the corner. Or so it was. Recently I realized I now walk
through that area aware but at a normal pace, without feeling the
need to run. I walk with my head up, not whipping over my shoulder
at each sound. And once, an unintelligent person did make a r |
